Carolina Hurricanes’ Playoff Preparations
As the Carolina Hurricanes approach the final stretch of their 2025-26 NHL season with only four games remaining, the team has successfully secured both their divisional lead and a playoff berth. This success has prompted the management to consider resting key players in anticipation of the playoffs.
Roster Reinforcements
On Wednesday, the Hurricanes reinforced their roster by calling up four players from their AHL affiliate, the Chicago Wolves. The new arrivals include forwards Bradly Nadeau, Skyler Brind’Amour, Josiah Slavin, and defenseman Charles Alexis Legault. Under league rules, each team is permitted to make only five non-emergency call-ups from the AHL after the trade deadline, and Carolina had already utilized one of these slots earlier in the season.
Player Performance
Both Nadeau and Legault have made appearances in the NHL this season, playing eight games each. However, Brind’Amour and Slavin have yet to be recalled this year. Brind’Amour, who made his NHL debut last season, notably scored his first goal in a matchup against Montreal. Slavin, meanwhile, has NHL experience from 2022, when he suited up for 15 games with the Chicago Blackhawks.
Nadeau, a standout for the Wolves, finished the season as the leading goal scorer on the team with 26 goals and 27 assists over 51 games. Brind’Amour contributed significantly as well, ranking third on the team with 16 goals and a total of 34 points across 66 games. Slavin, who brought team leadership as captain, netted six goals and compiled 25 points in the same number of games. Legault, who had his own struggles with a hand injury, managed three goals and seven points in his 22 games.
Strategic Decisions Ahead
While the Hurricanes have yet to announce which players will be rested, there are multiple candidates available for rotational opportunities. Recently, both Jordan Staal and Jordan Martinook sat out a game for rest, indicating that they might be candidates once more. Additionally, with Jalen Chatfield nursing an injury from a game earlier this week, his participation in upcoming matches is uncertain. It’s also plausible that star players like Sebastian Aho and Seth Jarvis could be benched to preserve their well-being as the playoffs loom.
