Hubert Hurkacz Withdraws From Wimbledon Due to Injury Recovery

Hubert Hurkacz Withdraws from Wimbledon

Hubert Hurkacz, the Polish tennis player who once held a spot in the top 10 of the ATP rankings, has announced that he will not be participating in this year’s Wimbledon tournament due to ongoing recovery from recent surgery. The 25-year-old, who was ranked No. 6 in the world not long ago, has been sidelined by injuries since his unexpected withdrawal from the Libema Open earlier this month.

Injury Challenges

Hurkacz had previously faced issues with his lower back during that tournament, where he required multiple medical timeouts mid-match. His troubles didn’t end there; last year at Wimbledon, Hurkacz underwent meniscus surgery on his right knee after pulling out of his second-round match while seeded seventh. As a result of these health challenges, he also missed competing at the Olympics.

Official Statement

“After careful consideration with my team, I’ve decided to withdraw from this year’s Wimbledon. During my preparations, I experienced irritation in the synovial membrane, which is part of my recovery phase and requires me to take a step back for adequate rest and treatment. I have to prioritize listening to my body.”

Originally, Hurkacz was slated to face British player Billy Harris in the opening round of the prestigious grass court event starting on Monday, following the tournament’s draw announcement that same day. Despite the disappointment, Hurkacz remains focused on his health as he recovers from these physical setbacks.
