Holger Rune Talks Social Media Challenges and Collaboration with Andre Agassi

Holger Rune on Social Media’s Impact

Young ATP tennis sensation Holger Rune recently shared his thoughts on the impact of social media on professional athletes, particularly targeting misleading accounts that share fabricated news. Social platforms are flooded with diverse content ranging from informative to humorous, but the rise of accounts disseminating false information has become a growing concern.

Misleading Accounts in Tennis

Among the culprits is the account Tennis Centel, which imitates the popular Tennis Central—known for posting credible news about the sport. Recently, Tennis Centel has been the source of outrageous but pseudo-believable stories, such as a report about Iga Swiatek auctioning her Wimbledon towels on eBay and claims about Stefanos Tsitsipas initiating a support group for fellow ATP players. Following an incident involving fellow competitor Veronika Kudermetova, where rumors suggested Rune was unaware of her marriage while pursuing her, the account began to mock the young Dane’s romantic encounters.

Unamused, Rune took a stand against the account, urging his fans to report it. This resulted in a brief suspension of Tennis Centel on the platform, though it resurfaced shortly after and continued its antics, targeting Rune.

Rune’s Criticism of Misleading Posts

During the Cincinnati Open in 2025, Rune elaborated on his criticism of the misleading posts, stating, “Jokes are great, and fun is important, but when the content blurs the line between real and fake, especially when it’s harmful, it crosses a line. It can be provocative, which is unnecessary. But the internet is indeed difficult to police.”

Rune’s Connection with Andre Agassi

In addition to addressing social media challenges, Rune has been quite active on the court and has forged a connection with tennis legend Andre Agassi. Fans have speculated about the possibility of Agassi becoming Rune’s full-time coach. Rune confirmed their ongoing conversation, noting, “We’ve been in touch since Toronto; he reached out again recently. It’s invaluable to have someone as dedicated as he is to discuss tennis with and receive constructive feedback from.”

As Rune continues to navigate the rise of his career, both on and off the court, he remains engaged with the sport and its broader culture.
