In a thrilling showdown on Tuesday night, Hofstra University captured the Coastal Athletic Association (CAA) Tournament title by defeating Monmouth 75-69, marking their return to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2001. Freshman standout Preston Edmead played a pivotal role in this victory, achieving a personal season-best of 26 points.

With this win, Hofstra, ranked third in the CAA, has secured its fifth NCAA Tournament appearance overall and the first under head coach Speedy Claxton, a Hofstra alum who took the reins for the 2021-22 season.

However, Hofstra clawed back, taking its first lead at 24-23 following a crucial 3-pointer from Cruz Davis. By halftime, they were ahead 35-32.
A late surge from Edmead, including a key 3-pointer that extended Hofstra’s advantage to 64-58 with just over three minutes remaining, kept the pressure on Monmouth. Cruz Davis added 12 points, and Plotnikov contributed a solid 10 points along with 12 rebounds from Silas Sunday in support of Edmead’s scoring effort. For Monmouth, Kavion McClain led with 19 points, while Jason Rivera-Torres and Stefanos Spartalis each chipped in 16. Despite the defeat, Monmouth had a strong February, ending their season with a five-game winning streak before this championship loss.
