Harry Maguire: Manchester United Declines Interest From Other Clubs

Harry Maguire’s Future at Manchester United

Harry Maguire has disclosed that Manchester United has firmly rejected interest from other clubs regarding his potential transfer this summer, suggesting he is looking to secure a contract extension with the team. Currently entering his seventh year at United after a significant £80 million transfer from Leicester City in 2019, the center-back’s future has become a point of discussion.

In January, the club exercised a clause in his existing contract to prolong his stay until 2026, yet that hasn’t deterred other teams from showing interest, as he noted.

“There were several clubs that might have reached out to the club about my situation, but United responded swiftly, making it clear that I wouldn’t be allowed to depart under any circumstances while there are ongoing inquiries,”

Maguire explained.

He expressed satisfaction with the direction the club is taking under the current management, including Jason Wilcox and the coaching staff.

“The atmosphere at the club today feels entirely different compared to when I joined six years ago, especially with the management structure,”

he added.

Had United not opted to extend his deal by another year, he would have faced becoming a free agent this summer. Now that he is in the final year of his contract, he is eligible to converse with foreign clubs starting January 1, 2024, if no new deal is reached with United.

While Maguire remains somewhat cagey about his future, he hinted at a preference to remain at Old Trafford.

“Last year, the decision was purely in their hands, and I wasn’t part of the conversation then. They activated the clause, and it was extended without discussion. As we look toward the coming months, I anticipate sit-down talks regarding our mutual future—be it an extension or preparing for another transfer window in January,”

he noted.

The 32-year-old emphasized his desire to stay at such a prestigious club, stating,

“It would be unwise to want to leave a club like this too quickly.”
