Ali Farokhmanesh, once a celebrated figure in March Madness history, has taken the helm as the head coach of the Colorado State Rams men’s basketball team. This shift in career came after his remarkable play in the 2010 NCAA tournament, where he became known for his iconic game-winning three-point shot that led Northern Iowa to an unexpected upset against Kansas.

He began his coaching career in earnest as a graduate assistant at Nebraska, leveraging connections and his experiences as a former player. Encouraged by former colleagues who recognized his interpersonal skills, he quickly advanced in the coaching world and later joined the staff at Drake under Niko Medved. Together, they achieved significant success, which paved the way for Farokhmanesh’s promotion to head coach when Medved left for Minnesota last year.
