Fred VanVleet Appointed President of the NBPA
Fred VanVleet, currently a guard for the Houston Rockets, has been appointed as the new president of the National Basketball Players Association (NBPA), as reported by ESPN sources. He takes over the leadership role from CJ McCollum of the Washington Wizards, who has completed his four-year term and will now take on an advisory position within the organization.
Leadership Transition
The decision to elect VanVleet came during a meeting of the Board of Player Representatives. In his previous role, McCollum played a significant part in the successful negotiations that led to the establishment of a seven-year collective bargaining agreement in 2023.
VanVleet’s Credentials
VanVleet’s credentials include being a key player on the Toronto Raptors‘ championship-winning team in 2019 and earning All-Star honors in 2022. Notably, he made history with contracts that are among the highest ever awarded to an undrafted player. His diverse basketball experience, which includes a stint in the G League where he contributed to Raptors 905‘s championship success in 2017, showcases his deep understanding of various competitive levels within the sport.
Future with the Rockets
He recently concluded a deal worth $50 million over two years, securing his future with the Rockets as he embarks on this new leadership role within the players’ association.
