Allegations Against Arthur Kaliyev
A recent exposé by the New York Post has raised serious allegations against Arthur Kaliyev, formerly of the Los Angeles Kings. His ex-partner, Lauren Mochen, claims that the young forward wrestled with a significant gambling problem, which purportedly created numerous complications both on and off the ice during his tenure with the Kings from 2021 to 2024.
Impact on Relationships and Behavior
Mochen elaborated on Kaliyev’s troubling behavior, suggesting that his gambling tendencies not only strained their relationship but also impacted his rapport with teammates and Kings’ staff members. She recounted instances where he insisted on watching only sports on TV, seemingly convinced he had money riding on numerous games, habitually checking scores on his phone.
According to Mochen, Kaliyev often sought financial assistance from her, alleging that he claimed to have no control over his NHL salary due to family influences. She outlined how his spending habits led her to cover many of his expenses, which she suspects were a means to conceal his gambling issues.
“He acted strangely,”
she recounted, mentioning that he would demand silence when games weren’t being aired and exhibited compulsive behavior when tuned into sports events.
Debts and Team Response
Mochen revealed that Kaliyev had accrued debts with some of his Kings teammates and owed gratuities to members of the team’s training staff. In light of this troubling situation, former Kings General Manager Rob Blake addressed the matter by conferring with Kaliyev’s agent, Ian Pulver, suggesting that the player needed to reconcile his financial obligations before any further action could be taken regarding his future with the team.
Despite the increasing difficulties between Kaliyev and the Kings, Blake held off on waiving or trading the forward until it was clear that he had addressed his debts to the organization. Ultimately, Kaliyev was placed on waivers on January 5, 2025, only to be claimed by the New York Rangers less than a day later. Notably, he had not participated in any games for the Kings in the 2024-25 season prior to this move.
Future Developments
As the situation evolves, Mochen has expressed intentions to bring forth further allegations against Kaliyev, asserting that he has defrauded her of over $50,000. Currently, Kaliyev finds himself a part of the Ottawa Senators organization after signing a one-year contract this offseason. Though he has appeared in two NHL games this season, he is presently playing with the AHL’s Belleville Senators.
