Health Incident
Oscar, the former Chelsea midfielder, has recently left the hospital following a concerning health incident last week. The 34-year-old athlete experienced a brief loss of consciousness while participating in a pre-season fitness assessment on an exercise bike at São Paulo’s training facilities on November 11. His condition prompted immediate admission to the cardiology unit of Einstein Hospital in São Paulo, where he underwent a thorough series of examinations throughout the week.
Medical Evaluation
On Sunday, the Brazilian soccer player was discharged, as an official statement from São Paulo FC revealed. The club reported that the medical professionals determined he had suffered from vasovagal syncope—a condition characterized by a sudden drop in heart rate and blood pressure, leading to reduced cerebral blood flow and short-term unconsciousness. During his hospital stay, Oscar remained stable and in good health.
Recovery and Future
To ensure his well-being, he will observe a prescribed period of rest under medical guidance. Remarkably, ESPN reported that initial evaluations indicated Oscar’s heart is in good condition, with sources suggesting that, given the potential severity of such incidents, the outcome was reassuringly favorable.
Oscar returned to his childhood club, São Paulo, in December 2024, after spending eight years in the Chinese Super League. His current contract extends until the end of 2027.
