Flyers Trade Defenseman Egor Zamula to Penguins for Forward Philip Tomasino

Philadelphia Flyers Trade Update

In a significant roster update, the Philadelphia Flyers have traded defenseman Egor Zamula to the Pittsburgh Penguins in return for forward Philip Tomasino. Following the trade, Tomasino, who is 24 years old, is set to join the Flyers’ American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate, the Lehigh Valley Phantoms.

Philip Tomasino’s Career Overview

Tomasino was originally a first-round pick by the Nashville Predators in the 2019 NHL Draft, being selected 24th overall. Since launching his professional career, he has oscillated between the NHL and the AHL, accumulating 218 NHL appearances where he scored 95 points. His most productive performance came during the 2024-25 season with the Penguins, achieving 23 points, including a notable second place on the team for game-winning goals.

However, this current season has seen a shift in his opportunities. Tomasino has participated in only nine NHL games this season, managing just one assist. Much of his playing time has been with the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins in the AHL, where he demonstrated impressive form, recording 15 points over just 14 games.

Egor Zamula’s Contributions

On the other side of the trade, Egor Zamula, signed as an undrafted free agent by the Flyers in 2018, has evolved into a reliable defenseman over six seasons in Philadelphia. In his 168 NHL games, he has netted 41 points. While his offensive numbers may not be overwhelming, Zamula provides essential size and mobility, alongside invaluable NHL experience. The Penguins view his addition as a response to their need for enhanced depth and versatility on defense.
