Flyers Refresh Roster Ahead of Final Regular-Season Game Against Canadiens

Philadelphia Flyers Refresh Roster Ahead of Playoffs

In preparation for their upcoming Stanley Cup playoff campaign, the Philadelphia Flyers have opted to refresh their roster ahead of their final regular-season encounter against the Montreal Canadiens. On Tuesday morning, the Flyers called up five players from their AHL affiliate, the Lehigh Valley Phantoms, including two who are poised to make their NHL debuts.

New Additions to the Team

Among the newly promoted players is Oliver Bonk, a first-round selection in the 2023 draft, who is experiencing his inaugural professional season after a standout career with the OHL’s London Knights. Joining him in making their first NHL appearances is defenseman Hunter McDonald, who had been with the Flyers earlier this season but had not yet taken the ice in an official game.

Goaltending Decisions

In light of goaltender Dan Vladar’s impressive performance the previous night, Aleksei Kolosov is set to enter the lineup, likely to serve as the backup to Sam Ersson against Montreal. This decision is aimed at ensuring Vladar avoids potential fatigue as the playoffs loom.

Playoff Aspirations

The Flyers are gearing up for their playoff return, marking their first appearance since 2020, with their sights set on the Pittsburgh Penguins for a highly anticipated first-round matchup. Additionally, center Jacob Gaucher returns to the fold after playing a brief stint in November, along with veteran forward Anthony Richard, who made a contribution of six points across 15 games last season.

Looking Ahead

Looking ahead, the lineup also suggests that David Jiricek will see his first action with the Flyers, accompanied by teammates Alex Bump, Carl Grundstrom, Noah Juulsen, and Garrett Wilson, who will join in as the team seeks to rest certain players in anticipation of the playoff grind. Jiricek, aged 22, previously played 25 games for the Minnesota Wild this season, having last suited up on January 31.
