Florida Panthers’ Challenging Season
As the Florida Panthers approach the final stretch of the 2025-26 NHL season, they find themselves in a difficult position, with only six home games left to play. Their first outing in this crucial segment will be against the Seattle Kraken on Tuesday evening, a matchup featuring two teams who have struggled significantly this season.
Injuries and Playoff Outlook
Florida’s disappointing performance can largely be attributed to a long list of injuries that have plagued their roster for months. Currently, the Panthers are sitting well outside of the playoff picture, trailing the New York Islanders by a staggering 14 points, although they do have two games in hand. With the playoff race looking bleak, the team’s attention has shifted towards their standing in the NHL Draft Lottery.
This year, they have a lottery-protected first-round draft pick for 2026, a strategic move that allows them to keep the selection if it falls within the top 10. This top-10 protection becomes crucial, particularly since the Panthers traded that same pick to the Chicago Blackhawks as part of the deal that brought defenseman Seth Jones to Florida. Should they end up with a high draft position, Florida would retain their 2026 pick and send the 2027 first-rounder to Chicago instead.
Current Standings and Recent Performance
At present, the Panthers rank among the league’s bottom 10 teams, tied with both Seattle and the Toronto Maple Leafs with a total of 71 points. It’s worth noting that Toronto has played two games more than both Florida and Seattle. In their previous encounter last week, the Panthers suffered a heavy defeat against the Kraken, losing 6-2, which further solidified their precarious situation in the lottery standings.
Injury Report and Expected Lineup
Entering Tuesday’s clash, the Panthers will be missing several key players due to injuries. Notably, Sam Reinhart, Anton Lundell, Brad Marchand, Niko Mikkola, Uvis Balinskis, and rookie Mackie Samoskevich will be sidelined. Additionally, A.J. Greer is serving a three-game suspension following an incident in Calgary. While there is hope for Lundell’s return within the week and Samoskevich potentially coming back soon, most of the players listed will likely not rejoin the lineup this season, with Greer being the exception due to his suspension.
Here’s how the Panthers are expected to line up against the Kraken on Tuesday:
- Carter Verhaeghe – Sam Bennett – Matthew Tkachuk
- Eetu Luostarinen – Anton Lundell – Evan Rodrigues
- Jesper Boqvist – Tomas Nosek – Cole Reinhardt
- Nolan Foote – Luke Kunin – Vinnie Hinostroza
On defense:
- Gus Forsling – Aaron Ekblad
- Dmitry Kulikov – Seth Jones
- Donovan Sebrango – Mike Benning
As the Panthers brace for the upcoming game, they must navigate these challenges while hoping for a turnaround in their fortunes.
