Florida Panthers Preseason Roster Updates
As the Florida Panthers approach the final phase of the preseason, they have taken significant steps to reshape their roster ahead of the official start of the NHL season. With the clock ticking down—only two games left and just five days until the inaugural match—the Panthers have significantly reduced their training camp roster from 52 players to 29.
Key Roster Cuts
On Thursday, the team made several key roster cuts, announcing that forward MacKenzie Entwistle, along with teammates Nolan Foote and Wilmer Skoog, has been placed on waivers. If they clear, they are set to join the AHL’s Charlotte Checkers. Additionally, several contracted players who have been reassigned to Charlotte include forwards Jack Devine, Josh Davies, Gracyn Sawchyn, Kai Schwindt, Ryan McAllister, Ben Steeves, Hunter St. Martin, Anton Lundmark, and Sandis Vilmanis. Defensemen Marek Alscher, Michael Benning, and Mikulas Hovorka, along with goaltender Cooper Black, will also be heading to the Checkers.
Professional and Amateur Tryouts
The roster clear-out also involves releasing players who were on professional tryouts (PTOs): Jake Livingstone, Trevor Carrick, and Hunter Johannes, alongside those let go from amateur tryouts (ATOs): Liam McLinskey, Brett Chorske, and Colton Huard. On top of this, defenseman Ben Harpur has also been released from his PTO.
Finalizing the Roster
Currently, the Panthers’ training camp is comprised of 18 forwards, 8 defensemen, and 3 goaltenders, but they must finalize their roster to a minimum of 23 players before Opening Night. This week will be crucial for forwards Tyler Motte, Noah Gregor, and Jack Studnicka, who are all competing for spots in the NHL.
Upcoming Matches
To wrap up the preseason, Florida will face off against the Tampa Bay Lightning, playing in Tampa on Thursday night and then returning home to Sunrise for the second matchup on Saturday night. Detailed updates on the updated training camp roster can be found below.
