Panthers Lineup Changes Amid Injuries
In light of multiple injuries plaguing the roster, Paul Maurice, the head coach of the Florida Panthers, is set to implement significant alterations to the team’s lineup, including the exciting introduction of a young defenseman.
Mike Benning’s NHL Debut
This morning, the Panthers announced that 24-year-old Mike Benning has been brought up from the Charlotte Checkers. Standing at 5-foot-9, Benning has had a successful season in the AHL, netting eight goals and tallying 31 points over 56 games. He is poised to make his NHL debut in tonight’s game against the Columbus Blue Jackets, stepping in for Uvis Balinskis, who will be sidelined due to a re-injury of a chronic issue that kept him out of practice yesterday.
Injury Updates
In addition to Balinskis, the Panthers will also be without Carter Verhaeghe and Anton Lundell, both of whom will watch from the sidelines. Verhaeghe experienced some muscle tightness following his impressive two-goal performance against the Detroit Red Wings on Tuesday, leading to uncertainty about his participation. Meanwhile, Lundell’s injury details remain undisclosed.
Looking to Secure a Victory
Despite these absences, the Panthers are looking to secure their third consecutive victory this evening. Sam Reinhart is making a return to the lineup after missing the last game, and he will find himself with new teammates as he takes the right wing position next to Eetu Luostarinen and center Evan Rodrigues.
New Additions to the Roster
Adding to the roster changes, Cole Reinhardt, recently claimed off waivers from the Vegas Golden Knights, is also set to make his Panthers debut. The 26-year-old forward has three goals and seven points in 44 games this season and will play on the right wing alongside Mackie Samoskevich and Tomas Nosek in the third line.
Injury List
Currently, the Panthers are grappling with a long list of injured players, including Balinskis, Lundell, Verhaeghe, as well as others like Brad Marchand, Cole Schwindt, Seth Jones, Jonah Gadjovich, and Aleksander Barkov. The team hopes that these lineup adjustments will help them continue their winning momentum against Columbus.
