Florida Panthers Strengthen AHL Affiliate
In a strategic move to bolster their American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate, the Florida Panthers have announced the assignment of several players to the Charlotte Checkers. This roster shuffle includes Marek Alscher, Mikulas Hovorka, Ludvig Jansson, Mike Benning, Tobias Bjornfot, and Wilmer Skoog as they prepare for the upcoming Calder Cup playoffs.
Key Player Assignments
Notably, both Noah Gregor and Nolan Foote have successfully passed through waivers and will also be joining the Checkers, strengthening the team’s depth for the postseason. The Panthers originally called up Alscher, Hovorka, Jansson, Bjornfot, and Skoog in April due to injury concerns, and their performance left a mark on the franchise.
Player Performances
Alscher stood out with three assists over four games and logged an impressive average of 20 minutes and 22 seconds on the ice. His impactful debut at 22 years old is a promising sign for the Panthers’ future. Jansson, who was promoted alongside Alscher, contributed with one assist while averaging 17 minutes and 16 seconds per game. Hovorka’s contributions included an assist in four games across three separate call-ups, averaging nearly 15 minutes on the ice.
Skoog also made his NHL debut in this round of call-ups, recording two assists in three games. Bjornfot, with 19 games played this season, demonstrated his capabilities by scoring two goals and tallying four points, showing his value during critical times for the team.
Upcoming Playoff Aspirations
The Charlotte Checkers are gearing up for their eighth consecutive postseason appearance, starting on April 22 at Bojangles Coliseum at 7 p.m. ET. With the goal of redeeming last season’s Calder Cup finals outcome, the newly assigned players will play a significant role in the Checkers’ playoff ambitions. The Panthers’ organizational strategy emphasizes depth and preparedness as they navigate the late stages of the hockey season.
