Incident During Game
Winnipeg Jets defenseman Hadyn Fleury experienced a terrifying incident during Tuesday’s game against the Vegas Golden Knights. In the first period, with just over six minutes left, Fleury endured a hard hit from Vegas forward Keegan Kolesar, which sent him crashing into the boards in a dangerous manner. The collision forced an immediate halt to the game as on-ice medical staff quickly attended to him. Because of the severity of his injury, a stretcher was needed to transport Fleury off the rink, resulting in a lengthy pause in play.
Response from Teammates
In response to the hit that sent his teammate to the hospital, Jets captain Adam Lowry took matters into his own hands shortly after, engaging Kolesar in a fight to avenge the dangerous play.
Fleury’s Season Challenges
Fleury, who is 29 years old, has faced a challenging season in terms of health, having missed 17 games earlier due to a concussion and additional time because of a knee issue. This season, he has played a total of 16 games, struggling to make an offensive impact with no points and a troubling minus-seven plus/minus rating.
Career Overview
Originally drafted seventh overall by the Carolina Hurricanes in the 2014 NHL Draft, Fleury has played for several teams including the Anaheim Ducks, Seattle Kraken, Tampa Bay Lightning, and most recently, the Jets, accumulating a total of 323 NHL games in his nine-year career. Despite setbacks, he has managed to carve out a niche as a dependable defensive player, tallying 44 career points (10 goals and 34 assists). This past June, Fleury secured a two-year contract extension with the Jets worth $1.9 million, which will keep him with the team until the conclusion of the 2026-27 season.
Current Status
As of now, the Winnipeg Jets have not released a formal update on Fleury’s condition following this alarming event. Fans and players alike hope for a speedy recovery for the defenseman as he continues to navigate a streak of unfortunate injuries this season.
