2026 FIFA World Cup Draw Venue Selected
According to numerous reports from ESPN, Las Vegas has been selected as the venue for the draw of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, scheduled for December 5. This decision comes after Canadian and Mexican cities were eliminated from consideration for this key event of the newly structured tournament, which will feature an expanded format of 48 teams competing across the three North American nations: the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
Official Confirmation and Venue Details
Pedro Cedillo, a high-ranking official with Pachuca, confirmed during an interview that he anticipated the draw would occur in Las Vegas.
“If I’m not mistaken, the draw is set for December 5, or possibly at the very beginning of December,”
he stated. Cedillo has been advocating for Mexico to be chosen as a base for World Cup training camps, emphasizing the need for presence at the draw to promote Pachuca and the state of Hidalgo, along with its two proposed training facilities.
Historical Context and Venue Selection
Notably, the last time the United States hosted the World Cup in 1994, the draw was also staged in Las Vegas at the Convention Center. However, that location, among others, is now fully booked for the forthcoming draw date. Reports indicate that the leading candidate for the draw’s location is The Sphere, a modern venue that has garnered attention following its opening two years ago. The Sphere boasts an impressive 54,000-square-meter screen and can accommodate 17,500 attendees, making it a suitable choice for this significant event in World Cup history.
Preparations and Anticipation
As anticipation builds for the World Cup, various teams and organizations are preparing, including the Kansas City Current, who are actively working to host a World Cup team at their new facilities. Meanwhile, FIFA is also releasing information regarding ticket applications for the tournament.
