Felix Cash’s Journey
Felix Cash, a professional boxer boasting a 16-1 record since his debut in 2016, has revealed that becoming a father has significantly aided him in his battle against long-standing issues related to alcohol and substance misuse. After his unexpected defeat to Tyler Denny in the summer of 2024—his first loss as a professional—Cash has been on a hiatus from fighting but is now contemplating a return to the ring.
Personal Transformation
At 32 years old and hailing from Berkshire, Cash faced considerable uncertainty regarding his boxing future after enduring several tumultuous years away from the sport. However, following six months of sobriety and the joy of welcoming a new child into his life, he expresses feeling rejuvenated and determined to stage a comeback.
“I had struggled with alcohol for about six or seven years, and it was becoming increasingly troubling. But the birth of my baby boy has fundamentally changed my life for the better,” Cash shared during an interview with BBC Sport. “If I had continued on my previous path, the outcomes would have been dire—either imprisonment or worse.”
Career Highlights and Challenges
Felix Cash rose to prominence in 2021 after a sensational third-round knockout victory over Denzel Bentley secured him the British middleweight title. However, his progress slowed significantly due to extended periods without competition over the last three years. Reflecting on this time, Cash stated,
“I’m pleased to be returning to boxing, which brings me joy, especially now that I have maintained sobriety for half a year.”
His fight against Denny was seen as a critical chance to advance toward European competition but ended prematurely in the fifth round due to an accidental head clash resulting in a cut. Denny ultimately won on the scorecards, but Cash felt that mental distractions hindered his performance.
“I acknowledge that I should not have been in the ring under those circumstances. However, had the fight continued without the cut interruption, I’m confident I would have claimed victory,” he remarked.
Looking Ahead
Following his defeat, Denny secured a noteworthy match with rising star Hamzah Sheeraz at Wembley Stadium. Now, Cash is eager to regain his status among the leading middleweights in the UK. While he has yet to set a date for his return, he is in discussions with several promoters, including Matchroom, Queensberry, and Boxxer.
Having previously trained under notable figures like Tony Sims and Adam Booth, Cash is now working with trainer Jacob MacMillan, who also trains current British light-heavyweight champion Lewis Edmondson.
“Our training dynamic clicked immediately, and I’m truly enjoying boxing again,” Cash expressed.
As he prepares for his comeback, Cash emphasizes his desire to prove himself anew.
“I am ready to demonstrate my abilities and show everyone that I am a serious contender in this sport,” he concluded.
