Judge Grants Chris Gabehart Permission to Continue Role at Spire Motorsports
A federal judge has granted permission for Chris Gabehart, the former competition director for Joe Gibbs Racing (JGR), to maintain his role at Spire Motorsports, provided he does not engage in the same activities he held while with JGR. Gabehart, who now serves as the chief motorsports officer for Spire, oversees many of the racing operations under the parent company, TWG Global. He made his debut as a Spire team member this past weekend at the IndyCar event in St. Petersburg, Florida.
Details of the Court Decision
The decision made by U.S. District Court Judge Susan C. Rodriguez came after a hearing where JGR sought a restraining order to limit Gabehart’s employment with Spire. Both parties have been encouraged to find a compromise, with a follow-up hearing set for March 16 to address further developments in the case. Judge Rodriguez also mandated that Gabehart return all proprietary data and materials he possesses from JGR back to the organization, which was founded by Joe Gibbs, a celebrated figure in both NASCAR and the NFL.
Gibbs has co-owned JGR since its inception in 1992, following a successful career coaching the Washington NFL team to three Super Bowl titles. Presently, JGR fields cars for several prominent NASCAR drivers including Christopher Bell, Chase Briscoe, Ty Gibbs, and Denny Hamlin.
Attendance and Future Races
Importantly, neither Gibbs nor his daughter-in-law and co-owner, Heather Gibbs, were present in court for the brief 10-minute session, although they had attended the previous hearing that took place on Friday. Gabehart is allowed to attend this weekend’s races at Phoenix Raceway, where both NASCAR and IndyCar series will compete, and TWG Motorsports also owns Andretti Global, competing in IndyCar.
