Tragic Incident in Gurugram
A tragic incident unfolded in Gurugram this past Thursday, as 25-year-old Radhika Yadav, a promising Indian tennis player turned coach, lost her life in a shocking act of violence at her family home. Authorities reported that her father, Deepak Yadav, shot her, an act stemming from ongoing tensions related to Radhika’s decision to operate a tennis academy against her father’s wishes.
Details of the Incident
Local police were alerted to Radhika’s death when a private hospital notified them of a young woman arriving with gunshot wounds. Upon their arrival, they found only Radhika’s uncle, Kuldeep Yadav, present at the hospital.
Family Dispute and Tensions
In the murder complaint submitted at the Gurugram Sector 56 police station, it was revealed that Deepak Yadav had repeatedly expressed his discontent with Radhika’s choices, especially her commitment to running the tennis academy. Despite her notable accomplishments in tennis—having participated in 36 singles and 7 doubles matches under the International Tennis Federation (ITF)—the familial dispute over her career path intensified, particularly as Deepak faced local criticism regarding Radhika’s financial contributions to the family.
Emotional Strain and Admission
Inspector Vinod Kumar, the Station House Officer, noted that Deepak felt humiliated by local gossip regarding his dependency on his daughter’s earnings, which may have exacerbated the emotional strain leading to the tragic outcome. Sources indicated that Deepak earned a modest income from the rental of a couple of properties.
Reports also quoted Deepak admitting to the police that he shot his daughter from behind, an act fueled by her refusal to abandon her coaching pursuits.
Radhika’s Legacy
Notably, Radhika’s last competitive tennis matches occurred in 2024 and 2023, indicating that her focus had shifted towards nurturing young talent at her academy, a move that her father vehemently opposed.
