Merseyside Police Extend Questioning of Suspect
Merseyside Police are extending their questioning of a 53-year-old man accused of driving into a group of Liverpool supporters during the Premier League victory celebration that took place on Monday. The suspect, hailing from West Derby, has been detained on serious charges including attempted murder and dangerous driving, in addition to being unfit to drive due to drug use.

The incident, which quickly unfolded in the heart of Liverpool, resulted in injuries to 79 individuals. Currently, seven victims remain hospitalized, though their conditions have stabilized.
Ongoing Investigation
As police continue their investigation, they have received permission to keep the suspect in custody until Thursday. The area of Water Street, where the event transpired, has now been cleared, reopening to both cars and foot traffic after a temporary closure for investigations.
“We remain dedicated to supporting those still in care and our investigation is actively identifying more injured parties,” noted Detective Superintendent Rachel Wilson.

To further their probe, detectives are carrying out thorough reviews of CCTV footage throughout the city to trace the movements of the suspect’s vehicle, identified as a Ford Galaxy, leading up to the incident.
