Extended Badge Display for Club World Cup Champions Raises Eyebrows

FIFA’s Update on Club World Cup Badges

In a significant update from FIFA, teams victorious in the newly formatted Club World Cup will sport a celebratory badge on their jerseys for an extended duration of four years. This update comes amid the tournament’s transition into a 32-team format, with the next edition not scheduled until 2029.

Traditionally, teams have been permitted to display a badge for a year following a championship win, but changes to the tournament structure have resulted in this policy revision.

Manchester City and the Club World Cup

The Club World Cup, previously contested annually every December, saw its last iteration in 2023, where Manchester City emerged as champions. Since that victory, the team has proudly displayed a gold crest on their shirts, despite Real Madrid’s triumph in the renamed Intercontinental Cup in December 2024.

“Although FIFA views the Intercontinental Cup as a rebranded version of the former tournament, the organization recognizes the new Club World Cup as the legitimate successor.”

This recognition allows Manchester City to continue wearing their badge until the next tournament kicks off later this month in the United States.

Anticipation for Upcoming Tournaments

As the next Club World Cup approaches, excitement builds about which team will soon join the ranks of those permitted to flaunt the commemorative emblem for an impressive four-year spell, marking their achievement in this prestigious competition.
