Expert Analysis and Player Fit Evaluations from the 2025 NBA Draft

The NBA Draft 2025 Overview

The NBA Draft for 2025 is currently in progress, spanning two days as analysts, including Sam Vecenie and John Hollinger, provide insights into every selection made.

Selected Players

1. Dallas Mavericks

  • Player Selected: Cooper Flagg | Height: 6’8″ | Age: 18 | College: Duke

Vecenie’s Evaluation: Flagg stands out as an exceptionally well-rounded prospect. In my years of evaluating talent, I regard him as the second-best player I’ve encountered since I began in 2015, surpassed only by Victor Wembanyama. While Zion Williamson may have had a higher theoretical ceiling, Flagg’s all-around skills on both offense and defense position him favorably for impactful performance in critical game situations.

Two reasons support my choice of Flagg over Williamson:

  1. Versatility: Flagg presents no limitations on roster construction; his elite competitive nature enhances teammates’ performance.
  2. Injury Mitigation: Flagg has maintained good health, offering a much higher safety profile on draft day compared to 2019.

I foresee Flagg evolving into an All-NBA caliber player, with the potential to rank among the top five players in the league. His influence on both sides of the court is astonishing, making him the foundation upon which a championship-contending organization should be built.

Hollinger’s Take: Fans in Dallas can breathe a sigh of relief with this choice; the selection of Flagg is undoubtedly the right decision. His mid-tier outcome should see him becoming an All-Star by the end of his rookie contract, with potential MVP capabilities.

2. San Antonio Spurs

  • Player Selected: Dylan Harper | Height: 6’5″ | Age: 19 | College: Rutgers

Vecenie’s Evaluation: Harper represents a strong candidate to excel as an NBA guard. He meets nearly all essential criteria, demonstrating an ability to create scoring opportunities at the rim even within Rutgers’ outdated offensive strategies. His skill at drawing fouls and playmaking ability marks him as a likely primary distributor. Defensively, he exhibits commitment and capability, particularly during high-pressure situations.

Harper narrowly misses being in the highest tier of prospects: He has All-Star potential and an All-NBA ceiling, ensuring a solid baseline for success.

Hollinger’s Insight: Harper’s inclusion complicates the backcourt dynamic for the Spurs, particularly with last year’s Rookie of the Year, Stephon Castle, and the recently signed former All-Star De’Aaron Fox already in the mix.
