Everton’s Negotiations for Jack Grealish
Everton Football Club is currently engaging in negotiations with Manchester City regarding the potential acquisition of Jack Grealish on a loan basis for the upcoming season. While discussions are ongoing, it’s important to note that the situation is complex, and there is no certainty that an agreement will be reached soon.
Grealish’s Recent Performance
Grealish, who is 29 years old, has found his playing time significantly limited in recent seasons. During the 2024-25 Premier League campaign, he made only seven starts and was not utilized during the FA Cup final where Manchester City faced Crystal Palace. Furthermore, he was absent from the matchday squad in the concluding game of the season against Fulham, which was described by City’s manager, Pep Guardiola, as “nothing personal.” Guardiola emphasized his support for Grealish, stating,
“I’m the person who fought for him to come here and to stay here,”
indicating a level of commitment to the player despite his recent struggles.
Grealish’s Career at Manchester City
Grealish’s journey with Manchester City began when he transferred from Aston Villa in the summer of 2021, in a deal that made history for the club with a record fee of £100 million. His contract, lasting six years, extends until 2027. In his first three years with City, he played a pivotal role in the team’s success, helping them secure the Premier League title each season and contributing significantly during their treble-winning campaign in 2022-23. Grealish participated in 50 matches that season, including all knockout games in their Champions League run.
Challenges and Future Prospects
However, in subsequent seasons, his position within the club’s roster has shifted as he has fallen behind other prominent players like Phil Foden, Kevin De Bruyne, and Bernardo Silva, resulting in reduced appearances. Notably, in the 2023-24 season, Grealish made only 20 appearances in the Premier League, with a mere 10 of those as a starter. His output has been similarly modest in the following season with the same number of appearances, contributing just one goal and one assist.
International Career
On the international stage, Grealish has had a solid run, featuring in 24 matches for England in 2021 and 2022. However, he missed out on a spot in Gareth Southgate’s squad for the 2024 European Championship and has yet to receive an opportunity under new head coach Thomas Tuchel.
As negotiations continue, all eyes will be on whether Everton can secure Grealish’s services as they look to strengthen their squad for the upcoming season.
