Ellie Scotney Aims for Boxing Glory and a Special Gift from Jake Paul

Ellie Scotney’s Momentous Sunday

This Sunday holds significant promise for Ellie Scotney, who begins her day surrounded by family and attending church services, a tradition she honors weekly. However, the day will take a momentous turn as she prepares to clash with Mayelli Flores later that evening in London, striving to become the youngest-ever undisputed world champion in boxing, male or female, with all four junior featherweight belts at stake. Scotney, who boasts an undefeated record of 11 wins, is also in the running for a practical prize: a car, thanks to Most Valuable Promotions‘ co-founder, Jake Paul.

Jake Paul’s Generous Gesture

Paul was taken aback to learn that Scotney lacks a driving license and relies on public transport, primarily trains and buses, to reach her training sessions, with occasional Uber rides on days she has sparring. In a charitable gesture, he promised to gift her a car if she triumphs in the ring on Sunday.

Faith and Boxing

Before she can think about cruising around town, Scotney is entirely dedicated to maintaining her flawless record on a day that has deep personal significance, Easter Sunday. Her faith plays an essential role in her life and boxing pursuits. In preparation for this fight, Scotney sought guidance from her pastor regarding the appropriateness of competing on such a sacred day.

“I asked, ‘How does that align with being a Christian on Easter?'” Scotney recounted to ESPN. Her pastor reassured her, stating, “It’s not your timing… It’s the Lord’s plan.”

Scotney sees her boxing as an opportunity to honor Jesus Christ, viewing the occasion as a perfect opportunity for this.

“When I step into that ring, I know I’m not alone; my faith gives me strength,”

she expressed. Although Scotney’s upbringing wasn’t particularly religious, she intentionally chose to connect with her faith as a teenager.

“It has provided me with a solid foundation since childhood,”

she noted.

Influence of Family

The influence of her mother has also significantly shaped her. Scotney shared that after winning her first title, she wasn’t permitted to showcase it at home until she achieved greater success.

“My mum insisted that I keep it hidden until I brought home more than one. Now, we’ve got a little trophy cabinet that needs more space as my accomplishments grow,”

she added, hinting at the potential for new titles following Sunday’s bout.

A Pivotal Match

This match is a highly anticipated turning point for Scotney, who has been labeled as an underestimated champion in British boxing. Although she humorously remarked about becoming the first undisputed champion without a knockout under her name, her skills and boxing intelligence, along with her fierce determination, are widely recognized. A victory over Flores could pave the way for major opportunities ahead.

Shane McGuigan, Scotney’s coach, remarked,

“This is her moment; it’s the pinnacle of her career. I expect her to call me on Tuesday saying, ‘Alright, what’s next?’ My response will be, ‘Let’s take on another challenge.’”

Other Notable Events

In addition to Scotney’s matchup, another notable event is set for the weekend, featuring Chantelle Cameron, a former undisputed champion at junior welterweight. She faces Michaela Kotaskova in the WBO super welterweight division, marking a historic first for women’s title bouts in the UK, as it will be contested over three-minute rounds.

Cameron aims to secure victory over Kotaskova, which could lead to significant fights, although she refrained from speculating on a sought-after trilogy with Katie Taylor. Meanwhile, Mikaela Mayer, the current WBO welterweight champion, has expressed interest in facing Cameron, contingent on her winning this weekend, creating further excitement in the women’s boxing division.
