Egor Demin Breaks NBA Rookie Record with 34th Consecutive 3-Pointer as Nets Face Jazz

Historic Achievement by Egor Demin

In a remarkable feat, Egor Demin, a guard for the Brooklyn Nets, made history on Friday evening during the matchup against the Utah Jazz by sinking a 3-pointer that marked his 34th consecutive game with a long-range basket—the highest ever for an NBA rookie. This milestone was achieved right off the bat, as he scored the Nets’ opening points of the game. Throughout the first quarter, Demin showcased his shooting prowess, completing 3 out of 5 3-point attempts and racking up a total of 11 points.

Breaking Records

The young sharpshooter entered the contest tied with notable players Rudy Fernandez from the Portland Trail Blazers and Landry Shamet of the Philadelphia 76ers, both of whom previously held the record for consecutive games with a 3-pointer at 33. Demin, who was selected as the eighth overall pick in the 2022 NBA Draft after a season at Brigham Young University, gained significant attention early in the season. Coming into the game against the Jazz, he had already made 98 3-pointers, which positioned him just behind the Charlotte Hornets’ Kon Kneuppel for the most among rookies this season. In fact, his performance has placed him among the top all-time rookie shooters by 3-pointers made over the first 40 games, standing second only to Kneuppel, boasting an impressive shooting percentage of 39.7% from beyond the arc.

Dedication and Growth

Demin attributes the improvement in his shooting skills to countless hours of practice and commitment to honing his craft, stating,

“Shooting the ball is as simple as just being in the gym and shooting it.”

This current success contrasts sharply with his performance during his college career at BYU, where he struggled to find his rhythm, finishing his collegiate season with a 27.3% accuracy rate from long distance. He expressed gratitude to BYU coach Kevin Young for his guidance, emphasizing Young’s influence as an NBA coach who equipped him with the necessary skills to adapt to professional basketball swiftly and effectively.

Future Aspirations

Aiming even higher, Demin is on track to break more records, as he is closing in on the title for the most 3-pointers ever made by a rookie in Nets history; he has already posted the second-highest total, trailing only Kerry Kittles who set the record with 158 3-pointers during the 1996-97 season. Additionally, the rookie has established several franchise records for a Nets newcomer, including the most 3-pointers in a single game with seven and the most games with at least five 3-pointers, achieving this milestone in six separate games throughout the season.
