Edin Dzeko Joins Fiorentina: Veteran Striker Moves from Fenerbahce With Promising Prospects

Edin Dzeko Joins Fiorentina

Edin Dzeko, the seasoned Bosnian striker, has joined Fiorentina in Italy’s Serie A from Turkish club Fenerbahce. The transfer marks a return for the 39-year-old forward, who is set to begin with a one-year contract at his new club, with the potential for a second year based on certain performance-related criteria, as announced by Fiorentina on Thursday.

Upcoming Season and Club Changes

In the upcoming season, Dzeko will be competing in the Conference League, representing Fiorentina, which finished sixth in the previous Serie A season. The club is currently in the process of selecting a new head coach after the departure of Raffaele Palladino, who left his position after just one season.

Dzeko’s Career Highlights

Dzeko’s journey back to Italy follows a productive year in the Turkish Super Lig where he ranked as the league’s second-highest scorer, tallying 21 goals in 36 matches for Fenerbahce after transferring there in 2023. He also captained the side, playing a crucial role during his time there, although he wasn’t able to secure any silverware during his two-year stint. Notably, under the guidance of Jose Mourinho in the 2024-25 season, he managed to notch 21 goals along with eight assists.

Before his time in Turkey, Dzeko had an impressive career in the Italian top division, enjoying eight consecutive seasons with Roma and Inter Milan. He was particularly successful during his six years at AS Roma, where he became the league’s top scorer in the 2016-17 season with 29 goals. In total, he found the net 119 times in 260 appearances for the team.

Prior to that, Dzeko spent five notable years at Manchester City, securing two Premier League titles along with an FA Cup and the League Cup while contributing 72 goals in 189 matches under managers Roberto Mancini and Manuel Pellegrini.

Additionally, Dzeko’s accolades include a Bundesliga title with Wolfsburg in the 2008-09 season, where he also achieved the distinction of being the league’s top scorer the following year. With this wealth of experience and accolades, Fiorentina is hopeful that Dzeko will bring not just his goal-scoring prowess but also his leadership skills to their squad as they embark on the new season.
