Ederson’s Move to Fenerbahce
After an impressive eight-year tenure with Manchester City, Brazilian goalkeeper Ederson has secured a move to Fenerbahce, expressing his enthusiasm for a fresh start in Turkey. The 32-year-old made the switch in September, signing a three-year deal with the club, and acknowledged his struggles during his final season at City.
“Football is alive for me again here,”
Ederson stated at a recent press conference while representing Brazil during international duties, hinting at a dissatisfaction that had accumulated over his last year at City.
Reflections on Departure
Reflecting on his departure, Ederson revealed that he had sought to leave Manchester City as early as the previous season, although those efforts did not materialize.
“That period took a toll on my performance – I faced five injuries and wasn’t performing at my best,”
he remarked. He emphasized that the decision to leave was made in consultation with his family and the club itself.
“Staying at a top club is meaningless if you’re unhappy. This transition was necessary. Now, I feel revitalized by the atmosphere and excitement of Turkish football, which is incredible.”
Achievements at Manchester City
Throughout his successful stint at City, Ederson played a crucial role in securing multiple titles, including treble-winning glories in the 2022-23 season alongside a streak of four consecutive Premier League championships.
“I cherish the eight fantastic years and the 18 trophies that I earned there, but it was time for a change of environment,”
he acknowledged.
Aspirations at Fenerbahce and Beyond
Embracing his new role at Fenerbahce, he maintains the winning mentality developed during his time in Manchester and with Benfica, stating,
“New challenges inject new energy into your career, and I’m eager to help Fenerbahce reclaim its former prestige.”
Moreover, Ederson’s aspirations extend beyond club success; he aims to compete in his third World Cup, hoping to secure a spot in the Brazilian squad as coach Carlo Ancelotti prepares for the tournament.
“I missed recent call-ups due to injuries, but I am optimistic about making the World Cup team. Yet, nothing is guaranteed in football,”
he shared, emphasizing the competitive nature of national selection.
Additionally, he expressed ambitions for Fenerbahce, aiming to assist the team in clinching their first domestic title since 2014.
“I’m excited about the challenge ahead; I want to help restore this club to the top of Turkish football,”
he concluded.
