Clarification on Joshua vs. Paul Speculation
Eddie Hearn, the promoter for Anthony Joshua, has clarified that speculation about an imminent match between Joshua and Jake Paul is premature. While discussions have taken place, no formal agreement exists at this point. Hearn emphasized that their focus is predominantly on a more significant fight against Tyson Fury, which is expected to take place in 2026.
Following a lengthy absence from the ring of over a year, Joshua will first need a preparatory match before taking on the former heavyweight champion.
Future Plans and Potential Matches
In his remarks to BBC 5 Live, Hearn noted,
“It’s possible the fight with Paul could happen. However, there has been a rush to conclusions. We have plans for a major fight in February and hope to face Tyson Fury in the summer of the following year.”
He also hinted at the possibility of a lower-profile bout in 2025, contingent upon the circumstances surrounding Paul’s career and potential profitability.
Role of Turki Alalshikh
Additionally, Hearn addressed the role of Turki Alalshikh, chairman of Saudi Arabia’s General Entertainment Authority, who has committed to facilitating the long-awaited Joshua vs. Fury showdown. Hearn revealed that he and Alalshikh recently met in London, where they discussed plans moving forward.
“Any endeavors with Anthony Joshua will align with Turki’s guidance, and he’s offered us significant opportunities to realize our goals,”
Hearn stated.
He also mentioned,
“It’s ultimately up to Turki to negotiate with Tyson Fury regarding this match. While it’s not finalized yet, we have mutually accepted the terms he presented for a potential bout between AJ and Fury. However, the deal hinges on several factors yet to be clarified with Fury’s team. So far, Turki has successfully delivered on fight arrangements in the past.”
Hearn added, keeping the boxing community eager for updates on these anticipated matchups.
