Eddie Hearn critiques decision blocking Dave Allen from British title opportunity

Dave Allen Sidelined in Heavyweight Title Race

Dave Allen has found himself sidelined in the race for the British heavyweight title as the British Boxing Board of Control has announced a match between Jamie TKV and Frazer Clarke. This decision has elicited sharp criticism from Eddie Hearn, Allen’s promoter, who is baffled by the Board’s choice of fighter.

Eddie Hearn’s Frustration

Eddie Hearn voiced his frustration on The Stomping Ground, expressing his admiration for Clarke but questioning why he was selected instead of Allen for the title bout. Reflecting on Clarke’s previous loss to Fabio Wardley, he argued:

“I value Frazer, but how has he been chosen over Dave Allen for the British title opportunity? He recently suffered a defeat, and although he secured a win against Ebenezer Tetz, Allen just delivered a spectacular knockout performance against Johnny Fisher in front of a packed crowd at the Copper Box – a fight that was significantly closer prior to that ending. His achievements warrant this shot at the title.”

Negotiations and Communication Issues

Hearn disclosed that a potential match with Jamie TKV had been on the table, with both parties reaching a preliminary agreement before communication unexpectedly stalled. He recounted:

“About a month to six weeks ago, I approached Ben Shalom and expressed our intention for Allen to face TKV. Initially, TKV’s team contacted me. Ben gave us the green light to negotiate. We made offers, and TKV signed a contract to fight Allen. This signed contract was meant to be forwarded to Matchroom, but after that, there was complete silence for a month.”

The promoter indicated that the absence of updates stemmed from a shift in intentions among the involved parties, as they sought to position Frazer Clarke for the title shot instead. Hearn reported that during this time, TKV expressed a strong preference for fighting Allen, emphasizing:

“I’ve had an opportunity and I want that fight. It’s incredible for me.”

Clearly frustrated, Hearn criticized the lack of communication, urging action in the best interest of TKV.

Future Implications for Dave Allen

The British Boxing Board has now officially greenlit the TKV vs. Clarke matchup for the vacant heavyweight title, leaving Dave Allen in a precarious position after his notable comeback in recent bouts. While there is a possibility that Allen could vie for the title against the winner of this forthcoming event, Hearn suggests that plans for even bigger fights involving Deontay Wilder and Joseph Parker may take precedence. The boxing community anticipates future developments in this unfolding story.
