Dylan Ferguson Joins HK Nitra in Slovak Extraliga as Season Begins

Dylan Ferguson Joins HK Nitra

Dylan Ferguson, a goaltender hailing from Lantzville, British Columbia, has officially joined HK Nitra, a prominent team in the Slovak Extraliga. The announcement was made by the club on Thursday, sealing Ferguson’s one-year deal. At 26, he adds to a roster that recently tasted championship glory, winning the Slovak title in the 2023-24 season and narrowly missing out on another title last season.

Ferguson’s Professional Journey

Ferguson’s journey through professional hockey has seen him associated with multiple NHL franchises, including the Minnesota Wild, where he spent last season predominantly in the AHL with the Iowa Wild, without getting into a regular-season game in the NHL. His NHL experience is limited to just three games, and he notably made his debut with the Vegas Golden Knights after being drafted by the Dallas Stars in 2017. Just two days post-draft, he was traded to Vegas, where injuries opened up opportunities in goal, leading to his first NHL appearance against the Edmonton Oilers.

Before stepping onto the professional stage, Ferguson showcased his talent in high school hockey with the prestigious Notre Dame Hounds in Saskatchewan, following which he played junior hockey with the WHL’s Kamloops Blazers. Between 2019 and 2023, he also played in the Toronto Maple Leafs and Ottawa Senators organizations, appearing in two additional NHL games for Ottawa during the 2022-2023 season. Last season, he played for Dinamo Minsk in the KHL before returning to North America for training camp with the Vancouver Canucks, ultimately signing with the Wild.

Team Additions

Joining Ferguson at HK Nitra is veteran defenseman Branislav Mezei, who has extended his contract with the team for a 26th professional season at the age of 44. The club is also expected to benefit from the talents of younger players like 20-year-old Ondrej Molnár, who recently transitioned from the OHL.
