Duke Quarterback Darian Mensah Enters Transfer Portal
Duke University quarterback Darian Mensah has declared his intention to enter the transfer portal, contradicting an earlier commitment to return for another season with the Blue Devils. This decision comes just before the closure of the transfer portal window, which is set to expire soon. Mensah shared his announcement through a post on social media Friday afternoon, expressing his mixed emotions about the choice.
“I’m forever grateful for Duke and the coaching staff,” he remarked. “Thank you, Duke family, for everything. This wasn’t an easy decision, but after discussions with my family, I believe moving forward with my career in the transfer portal is the best option for me.”
Previously, Mensah had confirmed he would be coming back to Duke in December, following an exciting season which included a victorious overtime game against Virginia, ultimately securing the Atlantic Coast Conference title, along with a win in the Sun Bowl against Arizona State. He transferred from Tulane to Duke, where he made significant contributions in his season with impressive statistics, ranking second in the Bowl Subdivision with 3,937 passing yards and boasting 34 touchdown passes alongside only six interceptions.
Changes in College Football Transfer Rules
This year marked a significant change in college football’s transfer rules, consolidating the process into a single transfer window from January 2 to January 6, unlike previous years that featured two distinct phases for players to enter the transfer portal, one in December and another in April.
