Ducks End Losing Streak with 6-1 Win Over Sharks; John Carlson Hits Milestone with First Hat Trick

Anaheim Ducks End Losing Streak with Dominant Win

In a commanding display, the Anaheim Ducks broke their six-game losing streak with a decisive 6-1 win over the San Jose Sharks on Thursday night in California. Leading the charge was veteran defenseman John Carlson, who achieved a career milestone by netting his first-ever hat trick in 1,156 NHL games, a feat he accomplished with two power-play goals in the third period, one of which sealed his hat trick with just under six minutes to go.

Key Contributions and Game Highlights

Assists were contributed by Beckett Sennecke, who recorded two, while teammates Leo Carlsson, Alex Killorn, and Frank Vatrano each found the back of the net as well. This victory marks the Ducks’ first win since March 26, showcasing their potential to compete effectively in the Pacific Division.

Carlsson got the Ducks on the scoreboard early, just shy of three minutes into the game, marking his 28th goal of the season. Carlson struck again later in the first period with his second goal for the Ducks, benefiting from a pick by Sennecke that obscured the goalie’s view. Despite the early deficit, the Sharks did not register their first shot on goal until nearly halfway through the opening period.

The Anaheim team extended their lead in the second period when Killorn, on a two-on-one break, tipped in a pass from Sennecke for his 14th goal of the season. It wasn’t until late in the game that the Sharks managed to break through, with their lone goal coming from Shakir Mukhamadullin, as Yaroslav Askarov turned away 27 shots in goal.

Goalkeeping and Future Matches

Although Lukas Dostal had a strong performance for the Ducks with 16 saves, the team narrowly missed out on a shutout, which would have been their first since the last season opener against the Sharks on October 12, 2024.

The Sharks, who recently surged into playoff contention by winning five of their last seven games, will aim to bounce back as they host the Vancouver Canucks on Saturday. The Ducks will meet the same opposition the following day.
