Injury Update: Drew Doughty
In a setback for the Los Angeles Kings, veteran defenseman Drew Doughty has been placed on injured reserve due to a left foot injury incurred during a game last weekend. Doughty sustained the injury when he was struck by a shot from Tyler Kleven in the Kings’ matchup against the Ottawa Senators. Coach Jim Hiller provided updates on Thursday, indicating that the 35-year-old blue liner’s recovery timeline is estimated to be week-to-week.
Doughty’s Impact and Recovery
Doughty, who’s been an integral part of the Kings’ defense since joining the team in 2008, did not participate in the team’s recent game against the Washington Capitals following the incident. Fortunately, the injury is unrelated to a previous broken left ankle that sidelined him for the first half of last season, which bodes well for his prospects of a swift comeback.
This season, Doughty has contributed significantly with two goals and six assists over 19 games, marking his 17th year in the NHL. As a two-time Olympic gold medalist and Stanley Cup champion, he is also eyeing a potential spot on Canada’s Olympic team for the upcoming games in February.
Team Adjustments
In other team news, the Kings have made a roster adjustment by recalling goalie Pheonix Copley from their AHL partner prior to their game against the San Jose Sharks on Thursday. Following their latest road stretch, the Kings will return home to face the Boston Bruins on Friday evening.
