Drake Callender Traded to Charlotte FC
Drake Callender, the goalkeeper previously with Inter Miami, has been traded to Charlotte FC, as both teams announced on Tuesday. As part of this transaction, Inter Miami will receive a total of $750,000 spread over two seasons: $400,000 in General Allocation Money (GAM) for 2025 and $350,000 for 2026.
Callender’s Journey in MLS
Since being signed by Inter Miami in December 2019, right before their first season in Major League Soccer (MLS), Callender made a mark by initially playing with Inter Miami CF II. He successfully transitioned to the first team, eventually taking on the starting goalkeeper role in 2022. During his time with the club, he became a finalist for the MLS Goalkeeper of the Year award, amassing 92 regular-season appearances.
Current Season Challenges
However, it’s worth noting that Callender’s field time for the current 2025 season has been limited, with him only making three appearances so far. His season started on a challenging note, as he faced a setback due to an injury sustained while playing for the United States men’s national team in January. Following his recovery, he encountered competition from Oscar Ustari, which resulted in him losing his starting position under Miami head coach Javier Mascherano.
Charlotte FC’s Enthusiasm
Charlotte FC’s general manager, Zoran Krneta, expressed enthusiasm about acquiring Callender, highlighting his experience in MLS and recent national team selection.
“Drake represents an important addition to our goalkeeper roster as we aim to build a robust team both as we approach the end of this season and for future competitions,”
Krneta stated, signifying the club’s commitment to enhancing their squad dynamics.
