Jérémy Doku’s Confidence in Manchester City
Jérémy Doku has expressed confidence in Manchester City’s capabilities in the Premier League title race, emphasizing that the team is primarily focused on its own performance rather than monitoring rivals like Arsenal, who currently lead the standings by four points. After an impressive 3-0 victory over Liverpool at the Etihad Stadium, in which Doku played a pivotal role, City manager Pep Guardiola remarked that this win demonstrated their readiness to contend for the championship.
Focus on Performance
Doku, reflecting on the match, stated, “We’re only concentrating on ourselves. We are aware that we can still improve, and while we’re pleased with our display against Liverpool, there’s room for growth in every match we play. We don’t really pay attention to what Arsenal or other teams are doing, because ultimately, it’s about how we perform. If we play at our best, we are a tough opponent to match.”
Standout Season
The young Belgian winger, who made the move to City from Rennes in 2023, is experiencing a standout season. He has already netted three goals, including a remarkable strike against Liverpool, which puts him just five goals shy of his personal record of eight in a season. Despite this promising tally, Doku is not overly concerned with statistics, maintaining that performance is what truly matters to him as a player.
Mindset on Performance
“I don’t focus on numbers; they are a byproduct of my work on the field. I aim to improve without dwelling on individual achievements. The only time I deem my performance unsatisfactory is if I fail to make an impact on the game, such as not touching the ball enough or losing possession frequently. If I don’t score, I would still regard it as a productive game if I contributed in other ways. That’s my mindset going forward,” he concluded.
