Disney+ Expands Offerings in South Africa

Starting October 2, South African users of Disney+ can now enjoy live access to ESPN and ESPN 2, platforms that bring a thrilling lineup of sports content from both the United States and around the globe. This new offering, which incurs no additional fees, allows sports enthusiasts to partake in exciting live events and programming, alongside an expansive library of existing shows and films available on the streaming service.

Exciting Sports Lineup

These channels are also part of the DStv lineup, specifically offered on channels 218 and 219. Fans can look forward to an action-packed football season, with various leagues now underway, including:

  • English Football League
  • Scottish Professional Football League
  • Eredivisie
  • DFB Pokal
  • NWSL
  • Saudi Pro League
  • Turkish Super Lig

Additionally, the American football landscape is buzzing with the launch of the NFL season, while fans of college sports can also tune into games for both football and basketball scheduled throughout October. Moreover, rugby fans will have the chance to catch the US’s Major League Rugby and the Japanese Rugby League, which features several key players from South Africa’s Springboks.

Commitment to Customer Value

“This development reflects a commitment to enhancing customer value by providing access to ESPN’s renowned documentaries, real-time sports news, and thrilling fixtures from numerous celebrated leagues internationally.”

– Kyle de Klerk, Director for Sports at The Walt Disney Company Africa

Rich Content Library

The introduction of ESPN channels only enriches Disney+‘s extensive catalog, which includes popular series and blockbuster films like “Alien: Earth”, the latest season of “Only Murders in the Building”, and the animated classic “Lilo & Stitch”. Subscribers can binge-watch iconic shows like “The Simpsons”, “Grey’s Anatomy”, and more, with an assortment of Marvel productions contributing to the platform’s diverse content offering.

Family-Friendly Environment

Disney+ ensures a family-friendly environment, allowing parental controls to restrict access to content rated for mature audiences. All subscribers on the Premium and Mobile plans over the age of 18 will have viewing access to these newly added ESPN linear channels. In addition to this service, ESPN maintains a presence on MultiChoice’s DStv and StarTimes channels across the African continent.
