Deontay Wilder’s Intense Training Prepares Him for Comeback Fight After Tough Losses

Deontay Wilder’s Return to the Ring

In preparation for his highly anticipated return to the boxing ring, Deontay Wilder has demonstrated impressive physical conditioning, wrapping up an extensive training camp ahead of his bout against Tyrrell Herndon this Friday in Wichita, Kansas. This fight carries significant weight for Wilder, who is eager to revitalize his career following two recent setbacks, including losses to Joseph Parker in December 2023 and Zhilei Zhang in June 2024, which have complicated his aspirations for regaining a world title.

Training Insights

Wilder, known as ‘The Bronze Bomber’, showcased his commitment by executing nearly 500 rounds of sparring in a newly constructed, state-of-the-art training facility.

“I’ve put in the work—491 rounds to be exact,”

Wilder stated, reflecting his focus and readiness for this pivotal matchup.

Support from Former Opponent

Among those offering support during his training is Eric Molina, a former opponent who faced Wilder in a WBC heavyweight title bout in 2015. Molina shared insights into Wilder’s recent performances, characterizing the previous fights against Parker and Zhang as stylistically challenging for the boxer.

“Both of those fights were tough. Zhang’s size and left-handed stance posed a significant challenge, as did Parker’s agility and skill,”

Molina explained to World Boxing News.

Outlook on the Upcoming Fight

As for Wilder’s upcoming fight with Herndon, Molina expressed optimism, viewing it as an advantageous opportunity for Wilder to refine his approach and execute new strategies. Furthermore, he encouraged Wilder’s ongoing presence in the sport, especially after the intense trilogy with Tyson Fury.

“I believe he made the right choice to continue his career. There’s a path for him to reclaim the championship title, and with his knockout power, I have no doubt he can adjust his technique and achieve that goal,”

Molina concluded, highlighting Wilder’s resilience and potential in the heavyweight division.
