Deontay Wilder Stands Firm on Fury Cheating Claims Amid Upcoming Comeback Fight

Wilder’s Claims of Foul Play

Deontay Wilder remains steadfast in his conviction that he fell victim to foul play during his rematch with Tyson Fury, which took place in February 2020. In a recent interview with Inside Boxing Live, the 39-year-old boxer reiterated his long-standing accusations against Fury, calling him the “biggest cheater in boxing.” Host Dan Canobbio prompted Wilder on whether he still held these views, to which Wilder responded affirmatively, emphasizing his disbelief in the legitimacy of Fury’s victory.

Responses to Wilder’s Allegations

Despite the weight of Wilder’s allegations, which have lingered for over five years without substantial evidence, many in the boxing community, including members of Fury’s team, have countered these claims. In a detailed video shared by World Boxing News, Jorge Capetillo, a trainer in Fury’s corner, explained that the boxer’s gloves were inspected thoroughly by the Commission prior to the fight and remained under their control until Fury was ready to wear them. Capetillo stated that Fury consistently ensures he has new gloves delivered for training camps to protect his hands and those of his sparring partners.

Official Statements

Even with assurances from figures like WBC President Mauricio Sulaiman—who confirmed that he witnessed no wrongdoing in both of their encounters—Wilder continues to doubt the outcome of the matches. Sulaiman, who attended both fights, recounted how multiple inspectors were present in both fighters’ dressing rooms, monitoring the hand wrap and glove process, and confirmed that everything was in order.

“At no moment, in either fight, did I see anything that would look suspicious whatsoever,”

he stated.

Wilder’s Future in the Ring

Still, Wilder maintains that he knows the truth, posing the rhetorical question of how many times he has raised these concerns. As he gears up for his return to the ring against Tyrrell Herndon on June 27, Wilder aims to revitalize his career following past defeats that have postponed his aspirations for another title shot. The road ahead remains uncertain, as a decisive win against Herndon may not immediately lead to a bout with Oleksandr Usyk, the reigning champion.
