Pacers Acquire Zubac and Brown from Clippers
In a significant trade made just before the deadline, the Indiana Pacers have acquired Ivica Zubac and Kobe Brown from the Los Angeles Clippers. To facilitate this swap, Indiana has sent swingman Bennedict Mathurin, center Isaiah Jackson, and multiple draft picks, including a conditional first-round selection this year and both a first and a second-round pick in future drafts, back to the Clippers.
Concerns Over Zubac’s Injury
However, the debut of Zubac, a prominent center, may be postponed due to ongoing concerns about an ankle injury he sustained in December. Pacers head coach Rick Carlisle noted in a press conference prior to their recent game against the Milwaukee Bucks that Zubac may not make his first appearance for Indiana immediately, even if he successfully passes his physical examination.
While the earliest potential date for Zubac and Brown’s debut could be Tuesday against New York, Carlisle hinted that it might take longer for Zubac to return to action due to this persistent ankle issue.
“He had an ankle thing that happened in December,” Carlisle explained. “He came back, but it’s kind of yo-yoed a little bit. My understanding from talking to him is that there’s still something there that’s not quite right. We’re not going to put him out there until he’s really ready.”
Zubac’s Performance and Impact
Zubac, who is approaching his 28th birthday, has been performing well this season, averaging 14.4 points per game along with 11 rebounds across 42 contests with the Clippers. He recently missed a game due to personal reasons, welcoming the birth of his first child with his wife.
His anticipated arrival in Indiana is seen as a crucial enhancement to the Pacers’ roster, especially after they lost Myles Turner to the Milwaukee Bucks through free agency. Carlisle expressed optimism regarding Zubac’s capabilities, asserting:
“I feel both those guys are top-10 centers in the NBA. We’re fortunate to have made the deal, assuming it goes through.”
