De Minaur discusses opportunity to compete in US Open mixed doubles with fiancée Boulter

Alex de Minaur’s Wish to Play Mixed Doubles with Fiancee Katie Boulter

Australian tennis player Alex de Minaur has expressed his desire to partner with his fiancée, British tennis star Katie Boulter, at the revamped mixed doubles event during the US Open scheduled for this August. This announcement follows the United States Tennis Association (USTA) unveiling the elite pairings for the competition in New York on Tuesday.

Upcoming Tournament Format and Pairings

The mixed doubles format will feature a field of 16 teams, consisting of eight pairs chosen based on their combined singles rankings as of the end of July, while the remaining eight spots will be filled by selected wildcard entrants. Notable duos include UK No. 1 Emma Raducanu teaming up with Spain’s Carlos Alcaraz.

Currently, De Minaur, who holds the 12th spot in the ATP rankings, and Boulter, ranked 39th in the world, have yet to be included in the announced line-up.

De Minaur’s Recent Performance

Following his first-round exit from the Queen’s Club tournament, where he lost to Jiri Lehecka with a score of 6-4, 6-2, De Minaur stated,

“We’re definitely keen to try and play if they allow us to.”

He noted that the early decision-making process was unusual for tournament schedules, expressing hope for their inclusion.

Exciting Pairings in the Tournament

The tournament promises an exciting mix of pairings, including:

  • World No. 1 Jannik Sinner with American Emma Navarro
  • Polish star Iga Swiatek with Norway’s Casper Ruud
  • Novak Djokovic alongside Serbian Olga Danilovic
  • British talent Jack Draper with Olympic champion Zheng Qinwen
  • Stefanos Tsitsipas and Paula Badosa, renowned for their performances on the court

Meanwhile, despite De Minaur’s recent setback, Boulter is faring better, having smoothly begun her Nottingham Open title defense with a straight-sets victory over Lulu Sun.
