David Raya Highlights Young Football Stars
Spain and Arsenal goalkeeper David Raya has drawn attention to a notable commonality between young football stars Lamine Yamal and Max Dowman. He observes that both players approach the game with a carefree nature reminiscent of childhood play.

At 18 years old, Yamal has quickly become a prominent figure in the football world, being a recent frontrunner for the Ballon d’Or and earning significant recognition for his contributions to both his club and national team. In contrast, 15-year-old Dowman is still establishing himself, having made just five appearances for Arsenal’s senior team. Nevertheless, he is regarded as a prospect filled with immense potential.

During a conversation with ESPN, Raya refrained from making direct comparisons between the two players, emphasizing that they possess unique skills. However, he highlighted their shared enthusiasm on the pitch.
“They always play with a smile, as if they’re back at school, enjoying every moment of the game,”
said Raya.
“While they compete fiercely for their teams, the joy they display when playing, especially at such a high level, is remarkable.”
Praising Dowman’s Maturity and Talent
Raya also praised the maturity and talent that Dowman demonstrates, especially considering his young age, stating,
“He’s turning 16 soon and is already impressive. We don’t interact much in the locker room due to age restrictions, but you can see his eagerness to enjoy the game and his ability to take players on while maintaining a positive attitude. We’ve watched him develop since he was just 14, and his talent is undeniable.”
Transfer Speculation Addressed
In a separate thread of conversation, Raya addressed the speculation surrounding his transfer to Real Madrid after Thibaut Courtois suffered an ACL injury. The goalkeeper clarified that by the time the injury occurred, he was already in the process of medical examinations with Arsenal, leaving little room for any potential move to Madrid.
“I heard the rumors, but there was no serious contact with Madrid. My only interaction with them was when I was recovering from my injury, where they sent me a supportive letter, which I sincerely appreciated,”
he noted.
Raya’s Role at Arsenal
Since arriving at Arsenal in 2023, initially on loan, Raya has become integral to the team’s defense, effectively solidifying his role in their strategy.
