Darwin Nunez Set for Al Hilal Move as Agreement in Principle is Reached with Liverpool

Al Hilal’s Pursuit of Darwin Nunez

The Saudi Arabian football club Al Hilal appears to be on the verge of securing a deal to bring Darwin Nunez from Liverpool, having reached a verbal agreement estimated at €53 million, alongside performance-related bonuses. The 26-year-old Uruguayan forward has reportedly expressed his interest in making the transfer.

Current Status of the Transfer

While no formal announcements have been made yet, both clubs are in the process of finalizing the specifics needed to complete the transaction. Liverpool has granted Nunez the freedom to engage in talks with Al Hilal. Given the circumstances, if negotiations conclude successfully, he could join the Saudi Pro League team at their training facilities in Germany shortly.

Al Hilal’s Strategy

Reports have indicated that Al Hilal positioned Nunez as their top target and intensified efforts to acquire him, particularly after Milan’s interest in the player was deemed unfeasible due to budgetary constraints compared to what Al Hilal could offer.

Previous Offers and Nunez’s Background

In earlier developments, Liverpool firmly rejected a €70 million proposal from another Saudi club, Al Nassr, in January, as they were not open to selling Nunez during the crucial mid-season period while vying for championship titles.

Nunez transitioned to Liverpool from Benfica in 2022, with the potential of the deal reaching €100 million, depending on add-ons. Over three seasons with the club, he has netted 40 goals but featured primarily in a limited role, starting just eight matches during Liverpool’s triumphant 2024-25 Premier League season.
