Danny O’Regan Joins Schwenninger Wild Wings

Danny O’Regan, a 31-year-old forward born in Germany, has joined the Schwenninger Wild Wings on a one-year deal, as announced by the DEL team on Sunday. This marks a significant milestone in O’Regan’s career since it will be his first playing season in Germany, the country where he was born, after spending the last two years competing in Europe.

O’Regan’s Enthusiasm for New Opportunity

Reflecting on his new opportunity, O’Regan expressed enthusiasm about collaborating with the team’s General Manager, Stefan Wagner, and head coach, Steve Walker.

“The conversations have always been constructive and upbeat,”

he stated, looking forward to contributing in Schwenningen.

Team Management’s Optimism

Wagner also shared his optimism regarding O’Regan’s addition to the Wild Wings, noting his strong fit within the team dynamics.

“His presence complements our lineup, especially as we anticipate the return of injured players, making this signing a logical step forward for us. We’re confident he will help enhance our performance as the season progresses,”

Wagner declared.

O’Regan’s Background and Career

Born in Berlin while his father, Tom O’Regan, was pursuing a professional hockey career in Germany, Danny moved to the United States at the age of four. He grew up in Massachusetts, where he excelled in the U.S. National Team Development Program and played four seasons for the Boston University Terriers.

Before joining Schwenningen, O’Regan had an impactful stint in the NHL, where he was selected by the San Jose Sharks in the fifth round of the 2012 NHL Draft (138th overall). Throughout his time in the NHL, from 2016 to 2022, he made appearances in 30 games for the Sharks, Buffalo Sabres, and Anaheim Ducks, tallying six points. O’Regan has also been affiliated with the New York Rangers, Vegas Golden Knights, and Detroit Red Wings. In addition to his NHL experience, he played in Sweden for MoDo and in the KHL for Kunlun Red Star, making this season his third competing in Europe.

Current Team Performance

Currently, the Wild Wings are performing well, sitting fifth in the DEL standings with 14 points gathered from their first eight matches of the season, and O’Regan will be joining a roster that features other notable players including former NHLer Jordan Szwarz.
