Daniel Gafford’s Contract Extension
According to reports from ESPN, Daniel Gafford, who plays center for the Dallas Mavericks, is planning to finalize a contract extension worth close to $60 million over three years. This new agreement, which has been in discussions between Gafford’s agents, Mike George and Shy Saee from Klutch Sports, and Mavericks management, will run through the 2028-2029 NBA season.
Upcoming Season and Player Development
As Gafford approaches his 27th birthday in October, he is expected to earn approximately $14 million for the upcoming season before the extension takes effect.
Gafford’s journey with the Mavericks began two seasons ago, when he was acquired from the Washington Wizards in one of two significant trades that contributed to the team’s remarkable run to the NBA Finals. Since that time, the Mavericks have substantially revamped their roster, which now features a strong frontcourt. Alongside Gafford, the team boasts the rising star center Dereck Lively II, seasoned All-NBA player Anthony Davis, and potential first overall draft pick Cooper Flagg entering this week’s draft.
Performance Highlights
Renowned for his exceptional ability to finish at the rim and catch lobs, Gafford holds the best career field goal percentage (71%) in the league since his debut in the 2019-2020 season, given that he has attempted over 1,000 shots. In addition to his offensive capabilities, he has proven to be a formidable defender, ranking among the top 10 in terms of the lowest field goal percentage allowed as a defender contesting shots in the past season, having contested at least 800 shots overall.
