Georgia’s Triumph Over Mississippi
In a remarkable performance, Dani Carnegie led Georgia to a significant victory over No. 16 Mississippi, scoring a personal best of 32 points alongside 11 rebounds, propelling the team to an 82-59 win. This triumph not only marks Georgia’s first Quad 1 victory of the season but also ends an 11-game home losing streak against teams ranked in the AP Top 25. Not since 2006 had the Lady Bulldogs defeated a ranked opponent by such a decisive margin of over 20 points.
Standout Performances
Joining Carnegie in the standout performance was Trinity Turner, who contributed 13 points, 10 rebounds, and six assists. The Lady Bulldogs, now with a record of 16-3 overall and 2-3 in SEC play, demonstrated impressive shooting, hitting 55% of their shots from the field (29 out of 53) and 50% from three-point range (8 of 16).
Ole Miss Performance
For Ole Miss, which now stands at 16-4 and 3-2 in the SEC, Christeen Iwuala led the way with a double-double of 13 points and 10 rebounds, while teammate Sira Thienou added 12 points. In a surprising turn, Cotie McMahon, the team’s leading scorer averaging 19.2 points, struggled significantly, finishing with only nine points on 1-of-13 shooting, along with 11 rebounds and five assists.
Game Highlights
The game began to shift when Rylie Theuerkauf sank two free throws to give Georgia an early lead just under two and a half minutes in. This set off a commanding 16-2 run, establishing a 19-6 advantage by the end of the first quarter. Although Ole Miss attempted a comeback with a 3-pointer from Debreasha Powe that cut the margin to nine points in the second half, Carnegie countered immediately, ensuring the Lady Bulldogs maintained a lead of at least ten points for the final 26 minutes of the game.
Looking Ahead
As the Lady Bulldogs look to carry this momentum forward, Georgia is set to face Arkansas in their next match on Thursday, while Ole Miss is headed to Missouri on the same day.
