Dallas Stars Secure Key Contract Extensions

On Friday, the Dallas Stars made key roster moves by securing one-year contract extensions for defenseman Nils Lundkvist and forward Mavrik Bourque. Lundkvist’s agreement is valued at $1.25 million, while Bourque’s extension amounts to $950,000.

Nils Lundkvist’s Performance and Future Potential

The 24-year-old Lundkvist had a decent showing last season, contributing five assists alongside a plus-4 rating over 39 games. Stars general manager Jim Nill expressed enthusiasm about Lundkvist’s unique skill set, highlighting his offensive prowess combined with dependable defense.

“His ability to move the puck effectively, his vision on the ice, and his overall hockey IQ are crucial to enhancing our gameplay during transitions,”

Nill stated.

He added that the team is eager to see how Lundkvist evolves further and helps drive the Stars’ ambitions forward.

Throughout his career, Lundkvist has amassed a total of 44 pointsnine goals and 35 assists — across 183 NHL games played with the New York Rangers and the Stars. He was originally drafted in 2018 by the Rangers as the 28th overall pick but was traded to Dallas in September 2022 in a deal involving draft picks for the 2023 and 2025 NHL Drafts.

Mavrik Bourque’s Emerging Talent

Similarly, 23-year-old Bourque showed promise last season as well, notching 25 points with 11 goals and 14 assists in 73 games, demonstrating his offensive capabilities.
