Dallas Stars Secure Matt Duchene with $18 Million Deal Over Four Years

Dallas Stars Sign Matt Duchene

The Dallas Stars have officially locked in forward Matt Duchene with a new four-year agreement valued at $18 million. This development, revealed by General Manager Jim Nill on Thursday, will see Duchene’s salary cap hit set at $4.5 million annually through the end of the 2028-29 NHL season.

General Manager’s Enthusiasm

Nill expressed enthusiasm regarding Duchene’s return, stating, “We are thrilled to have Matt back with our organization. As our team’s leading scorer last season, he helped to solidify our forward group while also providing invaluable leadership off the ice and in the community. The fit with Matt and our team has been seamless from the start, and we’re looking forward to continuing to pursue our shared goal of bringing a championship to Dallas.”

Performance and Experience

During his second season with the Stars, the 34-year-old forward demonstrated his scoring prowess, tallying a total of 82 points (one for each regular season game played). Despite experiencing challenges in the postseason, where he recorded just one goal and five assists over 16 games, Duchene played a crucial role in propelling the Stars to the Western Conference Finals, where they ultimately fell to the Edmonton Oilers.

Looking Ahead

As he embarks on his 17th NHL season, Duchene adds depth and experience to the Stars’ roster, having previously competed for teams such as Colorado, Columbus, Ottawa, and Nashville since entering the league in 2009.
