PJ Washington’s Contract Extension
PJ Washington, a forward for the Dallas Mavericks, has finalized a lucrative contract extension worth four years and $90 million, as confirmed by his agent Kevin Bradbury from LIFT Sports Management to ESPN. This deal comes as Washington had one remaining season on his previous contract valued at $14.1 million, ensuring he will remain with the Mavericks until the end of the 2029-30 season.
Mavericks’ Roster Strategy
This extension for Washington is part of the Mavericks’ strategy to solidify their roster, as they have now successfully negotiated contracts with all significant players eligible for new agreements this offseason. This includes extending All-Star Kyrie Irving‘s contract and securing center Daniel Gafford with a three-year extension.
Washington’s Impact and Performance
Washington, who joined the Mavericks during the February 2024 trade deadline, played an instrumental role in the franchise’s remarkable journey to the NBA Finals that year, participating in all 22 playoff games. In the following season, 2024-25, Washington demonstrated his skills with an average of 14.7 points, 7.8 rebounds, 2.3 assists, 1.1 blocks, and 1.1 steals per game, boasting shooting percentages of 45.3% from the field and 38.1% from beyond the arc.
Notably, ESPN Research highlighted Washington as one of only eight players last season to achieve at least one steal and one block per game while playing in over 50 games. He also recorded 14 double-doubles during this time, a significant improvement from his previous three seasons where he only achieved 10 combined.
Looking Ahead
With the new additions and star players, the Mavericks are set to enter the upcoming season with what could be regarded as one of the most formidable frontcourts in the league, featuring talents like Anthony Davis, Cooper Flagg, Dereck Lively II, Washington, and Gafford.
