New Jersey Devils Season Overview
This season hasn’t been kind to the New Jersey Devils, who are struggling with a 34-31-2 record as they approach the final stretch of the 2025-26 campaign. Nonetheless, one standout player has emerged: Cody Glass.
Cody Glass’s Performance
The talented forward had a notable performance against the Los Angeles Kings on Saturday, netting his 15th goal of the season, which was also a personal best, surpassing his previous record of 14 goals. This milestone was reached when Glass’s shot from the left hash marks ricocheted off Kings’ player Anze Kopitar and into the net, putting the Devils ahead 1-0 in the first period.
“It’s an awesome feeling,” Glass expressed post-game. “The puck has been finding me, which is a good feeling when that happens.”
Mentorship and Team Dynamics
At 26 years old, he has taken on a mentoring role this season, playing alongside younger teammates Arseny Gritsyuk and Lenni Hämeenaho. Glass emphasized his commitment to playing a responsible game for his line, allowing his younger partners to showcase their offensive skills.
“I will be the responsible one, I don’t care. You guys turn over pucks, I will backcheck for you,”
he noted, highlighting his team-first mentality.
Impact Since Joining the Devils
Since being traded from the Pittsburgh Penguins in March 2025, alongside Jonathan Gruden, in exchange for Chase Stillman, Max Graham, and a third-round pick in the 2027 NHL Draft, Glass has made a significant impact on the Devils. Over the span of 69 games with the team, he has accumulated 29 points with 17 goals and 12 assists, establishing himself firmly as the third-line center.
A first-round draft pick in 2017, he approaches each game with the understanding that opportunities in the NHL are precious.
“The mindset I have always had is to work as hard as you can because you never know when your last game is going to be,”
he remarked.
